The Henry Mancini Institute Big Band presents a powerful program of landmark American music, featuring Bill Potts’ celebrated Porgy and Bess suite alongside a newly created suite from West Side Story arranged by members of the Studio Jazz Writing program. This concert highlights the enduring impact of Broadway’s most iconic scores while offering fresh interpretations shaped by today’s emerging jazz composers. Potts’ masterful orchestration brings new depth and color to Gershwin’s classic themes, while the West Side Story suite reimagines Bernstein’s music with contemporary voices and modern big band energy. Together, these works create a dynamic dialogue between tradition and innovation, celebrating the past while pushing the music forward.
