Ursus String Camp
Monday, June 22, 12:00 AM CDTFounded in June of 2022, the Ursus String Camp offers a one-week advanced precollege program for advanced violinists, violists, and cellists, aged 12-18, on the beautiful University of Tennessee, Knoxville campus each June.With a small enrollment cap, students will be assured significant access to our world-class string faculty. During the day students will have scale and technique class, single instrument ensemble rehearsals, mini lessons during a 2-hour practice time block each morning, afternoon sight singing classes, and master class/seminars each afternoon. Regular faculty and student recitals throughout the week cap each day. Note: This event will not be livestreamed.

The Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition
Saturday, January 9, 12:00 AM CSTIn recognition of a generous gift from the Laffont family, the Met’s nationwide vocal competition—known since its founding in 1954 as the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions—begins a new chapter as the Metropolitan Opera Eric and Dominique Laffont Competition. The Competition discovers promising young opera singers and assists in the development of their careers. Hundreds of volunteers from across the United States, Canada, and Mexico fundraise, operate, and support the efforts of the Competition and its singers. Note: This event will not be livestreamed.

Mike Anderson, Knoxville Symphony Orchestra Principal Tuba
Thursday, January 28, 4:30 PM CSTA native of Elgin, Illinois, Mike Anderson is a professional musician and educator in Knoxville, Tennessee. Mike currently serves as Principal Tuba for the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra and Brass Quintet, the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra, and has appeared with the Illinois Brass Band, Lexington Brass Band, Blue Lake Festival Band, Varna International Muzika! Festival Orchestra, and Tallahassee Community Chorus Orchestra. Mike has also garnered success in multiple competitions, including winning the 2023 International Tuba and Euphonium Conference Mock Band Competition.In addition to his orchestral work, Mike is an adjunct instructor of tuba at Tennessee Tech University. Mike holds a bachelor’s degree in music education from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music and a master's degree in performance from Florida State University.
