The concert centers artist-driven expression\, bringing together a compelling lineup that reflects the depth and breadth of contemporary jazz. The Gluck Jazz Combo\, directed by Duane Benjamin\, foregrounds expressive improvisation and cohesive ensemble dialogue\, creating space for each musician’s voice to emerge within a unified sound. They are joined by the Charles Mingus Ensemble under the direction of Hitomi Oba\, whose performances channel the spirit of Charles Mingus through bold interpretation\, emotional range\, and a deep commitment to collective expression. Also featured is the Salim Washington Combo\, led by Salim Washington\, where individuality\, risk-taking\, and stylistic fluidity take center stage. Together\, these ensembles offer a cohesive and engaging program that highlights distinct artistic voices while celebrating both the tradition and ongoing evolution of jazz.
