The Georgetown University Dance Company (GUDC), directed by Faculty Artistic Director, Prof. Raina Lucas, proudly presented their Spring 2021 virtual dance festival showcase, "Something’s Up!" May 1-May 9, 2021. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the performance was held online and replaced their annual in-person concert. The performance featured seven “dance on film” collaborative student group choreography works, and three creations by professional faculty and guest choreographers. Even though the event is now closed, please enjoy this selection from the Company’s performance. Michelle Du and Chloe Holman Title of Piece: "for its own sake" Choreographers: Michelle Du & Chloe Holman Dancers: Michelle Du & Chloe Holman Videographers: Michelle Du, Camille Holman, Chloe Holman Video Editing: Michelle Du Music: “Coalescing” by David Gledhill This piece explores the feeling of reaching the flow state: when one becomes wholly immersed in an activity; when the mind becomes free from all other thought. The flow state introduces a transformation in one’s sense of time; it is as if one is being extracted from the self. It is an all-absorbing experience of serenity and clarity that simultaneously energizes and motivates its inhabitor. The creation of the piece was somewhat of an exercise of the flow state in itself, primarily drawing upon improvisational dance movement and exploratory filmwork. We invite you to share in this experience and hope you enjoy.
