OSSIA New Music in collaboration with Eastman Performing Arts Medicine will offer a sound bath meditative experience for employees, faculty, and students walking through the Flaum Atrium in the School of Medicine and Dentistry. The listener is invited to enter, leave, and move around Flaum Atrium freely, taking up different vantage points to create their own listening experience. The performance will consist of 2 hours of continuous music with performers placed throughout the Atrium. Drawing on the aesthetics of ambient and meditative music and the open and mobile form structures of improvised musics, performers will utilize sustained sounds and elegant gestures. Listeners can expect to hear violin, found percussion, Chinese flute, and more, aided by expressive electronic processing. OSSIA New Music strives to offer a musical alternative at the Eastman School of Music and the greater Rochester community through artistic experimentation, performance of cutting-edge works, and active engagement with the world of contemporary music. By collaborating with Eastman Performing Arts Medicine, OSSIA seeks to expand its mission by offering a musical alternative in the Flaum Atrium.
