Fall Semester Midterm
Oct. 05
The Felson Faculty Writing Retreat takes place on Wednesday afternoons once (or, this semester, sometimes twice) a month in the cool, quiet, well-lit Graduate Reading Room on the third floor of the Main Library from 1:30-4:30 p.m. All faculty are welcome to make progress on a long-form writing project. Participants sign in, eat healthy snacks, and (normally at 1:45) share a writing intention for the period. Then attendees work steadily until 3:45 or 3:50 p.m. and then check in with each other about their progress. After that break, from 4-4:30 p.m., the session concludes with a "writing sprint." Drop-ins, late arrivals, early departures, etc., are welcome, but plan stay at least 40 minutes to minimize disruptions. As per the NCFDD guidelines, "writing" counts as any progress made towards a long-form writing project, whether that's reading/research, making notes, outlining, drafting, revising, editing, proofing, or even taking a deep breath and signing that contract with a due date on it. The retreat is supported by Professor Emerita Nancy Felson and the Willson Center for Humanities and Arts.
